Join us on the "Colors of Freedom" tour to celebrate Juneteenth!

Sponsored by the North Star Underground Railroad Museum; John Brown Lives!; the Essex County Arts Council; Paul Smith's College; the Adirondack History Museum; the Clinton County Historical Association; the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Center at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh; and New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The tour begins at the North Star Underground Railroad Museum (1131 Mace Chasm Road, Ausable Chasm, NY) at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The tour will end at the John Brown Farm (115 John Brown Road, Lake Placid, NY).

Highlights of the tour will include a historical portion and a barbecue with a band. Amy Godine will talk about her book on Blacks in the Adirondacks, The Black Woods: Pursuing Racial Justice on the Adirondack Frontier.


For those wishing to use their own transportation, the charge to participate in the tour is $10 per person or $20 for a family pass.

There is also an option to ride the tour bus, the cost of which is $10 per person (round trip). The bus will pick up passengers at the North Star Underground Railroad Museum (1131 Mace Chasm Road, Ausable Chasm, NY) and return to the museum to drop passengers off at the end of the day.
